  • Enjoy Jackson Hole, one of the most beautiful and scenic areas in the United States.
  • The term "Jackson Hole" was used by early settlers to describe the low-lying valleys that are surrounded by mountains, rivers and streams.
  • Though surrounded by mountains the valley is mostly flat and perfect for bicycling.
  • Another positive element for this trip is we will be staying at the same hotel for the entire week, so we just unpack one time and we are all set for the entire week!
  • Each day we will ride on bike paths and limited traffic roads to see the Elk Refuge, Teton Pass (or ride to the top on a dedicated bike path or take the SAG van to the summit and only ride down the mountain) with unbelievable views of Jackson Hole, Teton Village and Fall Creek Road with views of the valley with mountains always in the background, not to mention the Elk and Moose that were recently viewed on last year's trip!
  • In addition, we will also have an off-day to explore on your own nearby Yellowstone or Grand Teton National parks.
  • Finally, Jackson Hole has one of the most extensive number of bike paths of any city in the United States including a recently completed bicycle bridge across the Snake River and recently completed construction in 2016 the final part of the bike path that will connect the cities of Jackson, Wilson and Teton Village.

Day 1, Saturday

Arrive in Jackson Hole throughout the day, and enjoy the town of Jackson with its many shops and activities. The entire city is bike friendly, but if you do not feel like riding you can take the Southern Teton Area Rapid Transit (START) Bus that has a bus stop nearby the hotel. Also within walking distance of the hotel is a full service Albertson's grocery store to stock up on supplies. Meet around 4:30pm for the get together and meeting before heading to the welcome dinner with the group.

Ride on dedicated bike paths from the valley floor all the way to the top of Teton Pass. Optionally, take the SAG van to the Teton Pass summit and only ride down the mountain. Thanks to a combination of bike paths and the old highway that has been turned into a dedicated bike path, this is one of the few mountains in the U.S. that can be climbed on a bicycle without any vehicle traffic! From the summit see spectacular views of the valley floor.

Bicycling route: 0 miles, staying at the hotel; 12 miles riding only down the mountain and to the hotel; or 24 miles, riding up and down the mountain. (Route is flat until the climb and then there is about 5 miles of steep climbing (6144 feet to 8378 feet averaging 6.1% grade) to the top of the summit. After leaving the summit the route is downhill and then flat. The vast majority of the route is on dedicated bike paths)

The road runs near and parallel to the Snake River.
